John Smith, member 6002, as it turns out, is eligible for a 4% discount. Note that the previous subtotals are not overwritten. The system does not delete or overwrite anything. All records seen on the screen represent permanent records stored on the hard disk.

Once again, having recalculated everything, the system is ready to receive payment.

But wait! Horrors! The navy beans are in a container, and we have forgotten to account for the tare weight!

There are different ways to deal with the situation. IS4C allows for partial voiding of bulk items, up to the original weight, but voiding is a topic all by itself, and we won't tackle the details of partial voiding just yet. In any case, we want the sales records to indicate that tare weight is accounted for, as required by law in Minnesota. We will void the original item, and ring it in again with the tare weight taken out. In keeping with the policy of permanently recording all activities, voiding an item results in the generation of additional void records rather than in the deletion of original records.

Use the up arrow key to "scroll" up the screen until the navy beans are highlighted.
